Tips for Balancing Rest Over the Easter Break

Easter holiday is fast approaching and a much needed week-off from all the lectures and seminars will be here before you know it. Whether you’re traveling with friends or simply plan to have a wander around the city, rest and relaxation is key. Uni is tough and revising for exams and writing essay after essay can take its toll.

Be sure to take the time to position yourself for success on the other side of the holiday. Be honest with yourself and take into consideration these helpful tips to balance rest and productivity during break:

Be Present

Be completely present in your surroundings. If you’re venturing off for the break, leave all of your worries back at Uni. Even if you didn’t plan anything, have a wander and explore your city! Push yourself to try new things and meet new people, whether that’s by trying a new restaurant or a fitness class that you haven’t had time to explore during term time. Be sure to enjoy your time away to come back from the break completely refreshed and recharged.

Reconnect with Your Goals

Halfway through term, reflect on your goals thus far – both personal and academic. Record your progress and set actionable steps to complete each goal. If you didn’t set goals, now is as good a time as any! Here are a few examples to get you started:

  • Arrive on time to class every day the rest of the semester
  • Pinch pennies by making coffee at your apartment
  • Attend more social gatherings
  • Say hello to that new face in class
  • Stop procrastinating when you have a deadline

Get Your Zen Back

Sometimes the weight of term time can really take a toll on your emotional and mental health. Use your spring holiday to get your zen back. Do things that you genuinely enjoy all week long, and have a think about how you can incorporate those activities through the rest of term. Maybe it’s cooking dinner and hanging out with housemates, or maybe it’s finishing that book you’ve started over five times. If you are feeling lost and don’t know where to start, use this week off to seek help. There’s no shame in talking to someone and clearing your mind. Take time for yourself so you can feel recharged when the break is over.

Dedicate Time to Refocus

As you read this, you’ve likely already got a list of things to do BEFORE you break up for Easter. Our suggestion? Make a to-do list for AFTER the holiday. When the week off ends, you’ll have a starting point and feel less overwhelmed to pick back up where you left off. Instead of back-tracking, dedicate time before the holiday comes to a close to review your list, such as the weekend before you go back to classes.

However you choose to spend your break this year, make sure to stay safe and have fun!
